Our Journey So Far

OUR TEAM
Darryn Harrison,
Driver #7
From a very early age in Cape Town, South Africa, Darryn was introduced to powerboat racing by his parents who were both involved in racing and organizing events.
At the age of 9 Darryn began his racing career in the Junior Formula 15 Class that was introduced to specifically encourage young powerboat drivers into the sport who would normally only have qualified to race offshore when 16.
Darryn competed in this class very successfully winning the season comfortably and proving a natural talent for boat handling in both smooth and rough water conditions.
In 1999 aged 11 Darryn entered the Junior Formula 15 World Championships sponsored by Whestone and secured an overall win.
In 2003 at the age of 17, Darryn a British Citizen since birth, moved to the UK with his family, he completed his school studies and in 2005 his father connected with the Thundercat Racing Series that was run by a good friend of his and at a meeting Darryn was offered a co-pilot seat with the top Australian driver living in the UK at the time. Darryn’s driver had a formidable reputation for being tough on his co-pilots, but in true fighting fashion Darryn dedicated himself to the role and as a team they took many 1st place positions in the heats and went onto secure an overall 1st in the Championships.
Winning with Jason inspired Darryn to become a driver in Thundercat Racing and when Jason returned to Australia the opportunity for Darryn to drive opened. Darryn selected and trained a new co-pilot and with sponsorship from Microlink PC they worked their way up with sheer grit and determination to once again secure many wins in heats and take the overall Championship Trophy. All the while racing for Microlink PC his father was developing his own brand of inflatable race boat and when the Bobkat Hull was completed Darryn moved into this hull sponsored by Majengo Ltd and Bobkat Boats UK Ltd.
Now twice UK National Champion Darryn headed for the European Championships in Ireland followed by the 2015 World Championships in Malta and then a further World Championships in Cape Town in South Africa in 2017.
Since taking a break from the Thundercat Racing series another opportunity to race in Offshore Circuit Racing has arisen that Darryn has accepted. He has chosen long-time friend and fellow powerboat racer Berti Munro to partner with him as navigator in this fast growing and exciting series.
Apart from the Offshore Circuit Racing calendar Darryn and Berti will also be participating in some of the longer offshore powerboat races alongside many of the larger boats enter. The most prestigious of these offshore events being the historic and world-famous Cowes –Torquay-Cowes event that takes place on the August Bank-Holiday annually.
Their first season is already making some of the long-standing winning teams interested in how they are going to perform as they know the determination that both Darryn and Berti have to get podium.
Darryn’s other interests are motor-cross biking, mountain bike riding, football, rugby and golf, he will give anything of an extreme nature a go. He doesn’t mind adding that he likes to cook up some special dishes in the kitchen as well.

OUR TEAM
Berti Munro,
Navigator #7
Berti's first introduction to powerboat racing was back in 1994 when the Trans Agulhas race made a change to their schedule and made the beach town where Berti grew up the finish on New Years day. The finish was a stone's throw away from his house so he would go down and support the racing.
With a history and background in designing and building single seater and Le-mans racing cars Berti has always has had a bug for speed and being competitive. Some of the cars that Berti have built and designed have gone on to win UK and US championships in the early 2000's.
In 2003 Berti migrated to the UK and thought that racing would no longer be part of his life. In 2007 he joined the Thundercat racing organisation that was responsible for racing in the UK, that is where he met Darryn and Grant and that was the start of the life long friendship. In 2008 Berti supported Darryn's inflatable boat. It wouldn't be till 2012 when Grant and Berti created Moku Racing and start racing under the Moku brand.
In 2015 Berti decided that standing on the shoreline was no longer for him and setup a BOBKAT Inflatable race rig to race alongside Darryn in the UK Thundercat championship. in 2017 Berti went to the World Championships with Grant and Darryn to support both the UK and South African MOKU Racing entrants in to the world championships.
After taking a short break from Thundercat Racing, in 2022 a new opportunity arose for MOKU Racing to get back on the water and race in a offshore series. Berti has partnered with long-time friend and MOKU Racing's Darryn to be a navigator in the Offshore Circuit Racing Series and as if that was not enough the two of them have also entered in the UKOPRA race series which hosts the famous Cowes - Torquay - Cowes event annually in August.
Their first season is already making some of the long-standing winning teams interested in how they are going to perform as they know the determination that both Darryn and Berti have to get podium.
Berti's other interests are mountain bike riding, rugby, and golf.

OUR TEAM
Grant Harrison,
Team Manager
In 1971 Grant was introduced to Offshore Powerboat Racing in Cape Town, South Africa where he watched his powerboat hero’s compete in the sport. Taken to all the races his passion grew and he never dreamt that one day he himself would compete against these teams who he admired so much.
He started racing in the smaller Formula 400 boat until being offered a sea as a co-pilot in a 2L Bobkat Catamaran with one of his hero racers. For the next 30 years in South Africa Grant would buy and renovate many offshore race boats that he would enter in each season. He went on to design and build his own winged monohull, sponsored by Jameson Whiskey that would make its first appearance in the 1.3L World Offshore Powerboat Championships in Cape Town.
For Grant who’s passion for the sport surpasses most his greatest achievement was receiving his South African Springbok Colours, the highest award given to competitors who have excelled in their sport.
In a 1.3L Phantom Offshore Powerboat he represented South Africa in the World Championships in 1995 in Hull, England. His all South African flag themed boat drew much attention at the event.
Alongside offshore racing Grant could also be found in the 1980’s competing in inflatable boat racing that originated in South Africa and was soon introduced in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Grant was very involved in Darryn’s Thundercat Racing career and led him to design his own brand Bobkat hull that would see Darryn racing it in the UK, Malta, and South Africa. Bobkat and Majengo Ltd have sponsored boats that are raced in the United States, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
His vast knowledge of inflatable and offshore powerboat racing has seen him at events providing commentary as well a TV voice-over for race productions. He has arranged numerous TV and radio interviews for Darryn promoting offshore racing and in the past has also provided pre and post press releases.
His attention to detail in the race rig and the team is exceptional as he creates a professional team onshore and on water leaving nothing to chance.
Grant is a member of the British Powerboat Racing Club, based in Cowes and each year one of his highlights is attending the prestigious Cowes-Torquay event that has been running for over 60 years with worldwide competitors taking part in this historic event in August each year.
In 2022 he will be participating in this historic event with the 19' Phantom with his son Darryn at the helm and Berti as the navigator.
